About this Talk
Before we can use tape on a patient, we need to know more about the body surface we are taping on, in this case scars. After a short repetition of scar types and normal scar healing we dive deeper into burns and hypertrophic/keloid scars and their effects. Every scar is different and some need multidisciplinary advice and treatment. Many treatment methods are available. Effect can be incomplete scar healing, contractures, pain, itching and in general causing difficulties in function or movement. Guidelines and scar studies all show that tension on a healing scar is detrimental. Prevention of deformation and contractures is of the greatest importance in children. Information about the possible difficulties and looking for effects of scars on function, can help us decide our manner of treatment. Tape can be one such treatment option. Certainly one that counters the traction on the healing scar. A number of case examples will be presented showing the various tape application.
