Navigating medical decisions in a suboptimal system: insights from a caregiver-scientist
A Talk by James Sulzer (Staff Scientist, MetroHealth Medical Center)
About this Talk
I've been a rehabilitation engineering researcher for over 20 years. Then, my 4-year-old daughter sustained a severe TBI which resulted in substantial cognitive and motor disabilities. Despite my education and experience, and that of my wife, who is also a bioengineering scientist, we still struggle to make medical decisions among the other challenges of taking care of a complex kid. This talk describes some examples of these challenges and provides some suggestions for improving the state of care going forward.
