Lyn Turkstra

A system for describing what we do in therapy, and why that's important in rehabilitation

About this Talk

Rehabilitation treatments often are described by either who delivers them and how often (e.g., "1 hour per week of speech therapy"), or the problem being treated (e.g., "articulation therapy"). The challenge with those descriptions is that the contents of that therapy are not clear to all stakeholders, including children and families and also healthcare providers. In this talk, I will share information about the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS), a framework for describing rehabilitation treatments according to their targets (desired changes in function) and ingredients (methods used to achieve those changes). The RTSS provides language for communication across healthcare providers, to improve efficiency of therapy, and helps therapists explain the goals of therapy to children and their families.
