About this Talk

Recent research highlights that children with disabilities and medical conditions are regularly inappropriately restrained whilst travelling in motor vehicles, calling on a holistic approach to address this concern. Bridging the gap between research recommendations and practice through this approach requires input from allied health professionals, families, researchers, not for profit, industry and government to collaborate together ensuring transport needs of this group are met. Medifab, a supplier of special purpose child restraints, is committed to supporting safe and appropriate supply of these equipment solutions. As part of this commitment, Medifab have contributed towards numerous projects including independent crash testing, training course development and the establishment of a first of it’s kind accreditation model in Australia to support the provision of these supports throughout the community. This presentation will share experiences and reflections on the work done towards these projects, including Medifab’s work with MACA, a not-for-profit organisation based in Australia who have been fundamental in facilitating this holistic approach.
