About this speaker
I have been a rehabilitation engineering researcher for over 20 years, specializing in robotic exoskeletons, brain-based biofeedback, wearable sensors and gait biomechanics. Over 4 years ago my nearly 4 year old daughter sustained a severe traumatic brain injury at our home in Texas. The experience and aftermath have been supremely challenging, but have also seeped into drastic changes into my perception of my field. My wife and I wrote an influential journal article. This gained attention from The Atlantic, who did their own story on us. I also recently wrote an op ed in STAT News/Boston Globe on the importance of lived experience in rehabilitation research.
