Dr Rachelle Martin

Senior Lecturer, University of Otago Rehabilitation Lecturer & Researcher

About this speaker

Rachelle worked (>25 years) as a neurorehabilitation physiotherapist but since 2018 has worked in postgraduate teaching and research spaces. Rachelle is passionate about ensuring people who experience disability or live with the enduring consequences of health conditions are able to live the lives they want to live. She loves collaborating with others within participatory research and co-design projects, listening with curiosity to the ways that people want to engage with health services, and meaningfully participate in activities and life roles that matter most to them. She uses innovative research methods to determine the effectiveness of complex programme, services and interventions, including realist research, qualitative, single-case experimental design, process and outcome evaluation, and literature review methods. Rachelle also works to ensure that the way research is conducted, and the ways that findings are communicated, optimise the use of new knowledge within services - ensuring that the experiences and self-prioritised health outcomes of individuals accessing these services are effectively facilitated.
